Why I decided to delete my personal life off socials after sharing my Postpartum Depression Journey

Updated: Feb 13

Agh… yes I get it! So dramatic. But in all seriousness… I posted this video of me struggling in the depths of postpartum depression and some of my OG supporters were there for it.

But the rest of the internet?

Did they care one bit that I struggled to adjust to my new life as a mum after living in the depths of fun and craziness in Fortitude Valley? Were they a hanging onto thier seats to find out my experience on maternity leave?

NAH.

No one actually cares about my journey except some supportive online mummas who were also hustling the algorithm to grow a following, my actual real life friends and my family. Everyone else? They scrollled quicker then my face hit thier for you pages.

No one is paying attention. So why bother to share that important and intimate journey with them? I want this story to be shared for my adult daughter when she is in the depths of her new motherhood (no pressure kiddo :) I want to look back on the video with fondness when I am old and smile remembering how resilient i was.

I never actually finished the series - But I do promise it ended well. I got the help I needed. I levelled myself out and I’m slowly putting back together my life and LOVING being a mum.

It takes a lot of courage to share something as personal as your postpartum depression journey, and even more courage to step back from social media to protect your well-being. Recognizing your limits and prioritizing mental health is so important, and your decision is a powerful reminder that it’s okay to take space for yourself.
